Thunder on the Ohio was an unlimited hydroplane race that ran for over 30 years in Evansville, Indiana.  Founded in 1938 and revived in the late 70's, for many years it was part of Evansville's Freedom Festival.  The last hydroplane race ran in 2009.  More information regarding the history of Thunder can be found here.

In 2010, ThunderFest--a three-day street festival and concert in downtown Evansville--was announced as a replacement for Thunder on the Ohio.  Unfortunately, it too was canceled as organizers did not have enough time to pull together talent and logistics by the scheduled date.

It is hoped that a new festival will again take place on the Evansville riverfront in the summer of 2011.  Watch this space--we will report details as they are announced!
